Chocolate Walnut Cake

This delectable moist cake is an all time family favorite and a great dessert cake with a hot cup of freshly prepared coffee or a scoup of vanilla ice cream

Makes: 9 inch Diameter cake; about 10 - 12 pieces

Cooking time: about 45 minutes Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Chocolate walnut cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ¼ cups brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • 1 cup butter milk

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C. Butter and flour 13×9x2-inch metal baking pan.

Combine dry ingredients in large bowl and slowly whisk in wet ingredients.

Pour into greased baking pan and bake for about 45 minutes. Allow to cool.

Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm with freshly prepared hot coffee.

Note

The baking times might differ from oven to oven. So keep a watch on the cake, after half hour of baking insert a clean knife to check if it comes out clean. If it does not come out clean, allow it to bake for some more time. If you understand your oven well, then this cake should come out flawless.

  1. Looks great Archana! I’ll take it with the vanilla ice cream scoop:) I recently baked this, but added persimmon fruit to it, and also some spices for flavor. This is a regular in our house too:)

  5. Hey thanks anu. For other readers. She actually baked the cake in a microwave as she did not have a traditional oven and it was done in 5 minutes. I could not believe it. I tasted the cake and the texture was just as when baked in a normal oven.
