Salted Crackers topped with mushroom sauce
A great hors d’oeuvre for cocktail parties. Bite size pieces and creamy tasty mushrooms herbed with basil coat’s the palate with a taste which will make you want more and more of these.
Makes a quick snack when you have unexpected guests and something which does not take too much of your time as well.
Makes: 16 -20 cracker tops
Cooking time: 10 minutes Preparation Time: 30 minutes including the white sauce
Ingredients
- 16 – 20 Salted crackers or crispy toast (ready toasts are available in the market)
- 1 recipe of white sauce
- ¼ cup chopped basil
- 3 cloves of chopped garlic
- 2 cups chopped button mushrooms (de-stemmed)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground pepper for seasoning
Method
Heat oil in a pan; add garlic and sauté the mushrooms until soft and cooked
Add the basil and sauté for a few more minutes
Add the sautéed basil mushroom mixture to the white sauce. The mushroom sauce is now ready
Arrange the crackers/toast in a serving plate and top about a tablespoon of the mushroom sauce on each cracker.
Serve immediately
Tasty Alternatives
Serve it with tortilla chips, or along with garlic toasted bread, or along with baguettes.
Serving it on pastry cups or mini tart cups are very delicious.
Alternatively you can also add corn to the sauce, roasted/grilled eggplant to the sauce.
