Home Made Pumpkin Puree

( 2 Votes )

Making Pumpkin Puree at home is a simple, healthy and delicious. There are two ways you can make the pumpkin puree, both result in almost similar flavors. One method is to steam it and the other is to bake in the oven.

Makes 2 cups of pureed pumpkin approximately

Ingredients

4 cups of pelled and chopped yellow pumpkin

1/4 cup of water

Steamer Method

Steam the pumpkin in the steamer or pressure cooker with 1/4 cup of water until soft and tender. Allow it to cool completely and puree in a blender until smooth. This puree can be stored in the freezer for a few months.

Oven Method

Preheat the oven to 175 C.

Place the cubed pumpkins on a baking sheet and cover with foil. Bake in the preheat oven until soft for about 45 minutes. Remove from oven, add about 1/4 cup of water and puree in the food processor until smooth.

Hi
I was wondering, if I were making a pumpkin pie, would it matter which way I made the puree? I am guessing that the baked pumpkin puree would give me a caramely flavour? Which one would you use for pumpkin pies or muffins?
Cheers
