Batura is a traditional North Indian Punjabi classic bread savored with Chola. This is a spongy deep fried bread is made with yogurt and yeast, made to ferment so that it gets that little sour taste from the yogurt which gives that classic favor and puffiness. Adding some flavor like nigella seeds, fennel seeds or ajowain seeds enhances the flavor of this bread.

Naans is a bread about which I am very choosy as to where I eat them. I am so particular about its texture and the softness, that I hardly end up ordering them in a restaurant. I got inspired my this recipe from one of Julie Sahni’s Naan recipes. Its simply fantastic and delicious. easy to make and absolutely has that melt in the mouth flavor. I have tried the different versions of this recipe and all have turned out very very well. The easiest of them is an oven as you can keep multiple at a time (if you have a big size oven).

Chapatis or phulkas is the daily bread for millions of Indians. No meal is complete without them and yet many find them difficult to make. These are called so because they swell up with steam while being cooked. A healthy snack can be given to children by rolling it up with a fruit preserve/honey/spread some cheese. Can be a great snack for taking to school as well.

Great dish by itself, inspired by Richa’s Sweet Potato Parathas. Sweet potatoes are high in beta carotene and a fibrous and nutritious vegetable. The soft nature of this paratha, makes it’s a great snack for children as young as 10 months. I have fallen in love with these parathas.

A favorite gujarati snack bread. Sit in a long distance train and if you find a Gujarati, you will find theplas. Just as said, its a great travel food, like a baguette is to a French man. You can eat it just about anywhere without any accompaniment, giving you the satisfaction that you have actually had something substantial to eat.

These Parathas goes well as with any sabzi. It is best served hot.
Makes: 10 parathas
Cooking time: 1 minutes per paratha
Preparation Time: 5 minutes kneading of dough and 30 minutes standing time for dough

1 cup whole wheat flour

These parathas make simply delicious and healthy meal by itself, had with a lemon or mango pickle or simply with yogurt. It makes this an ideal and wholesome snack for school children. Can be given to children over the age of 18 months.
