"Puttu" are piping hot steamed rice cakes with coconut and usually paired with a gorgeous Kerala style egg roast. Puttu is a rice flour base mixed with coconut and salt and steamed in a special Puttu Maker. It is one of the most popular breakfasts' in Kerala. Some other combinations that can be had along with Puttu is kerala kadala curry OR bananas and jaggery OR boiled green gram with coconut and sugar OR jackfruit with coconut and sugar.
'Madakasan' as is popularly known in Kerala, are super thin crepes filled with a lovely coconut mixture. It is an excellent snack to serve your kids at home when they are super hungry or simply bored! Though this is usually eaten as a snack, it also qualifies as a super quick and delicious breakfast option.
Appam is a Kerela dish made with fermented rice batter and served along with sweetened coconut milk or stew. It is appam is prepared in an appa kal (mould that is a bowl shape).It is delicately flavoured with coconut and in the shape of a bowl with a thick centre and hole frilled edges.
