Sabsige Soppu Palya (Udupi Style Dill Leaves Stir Fry with Coconut)

Dill leaves are used very much in the state of Karnataka. They are added in the numerous recipes - akki roti, paddu, masala vada's. The leaves render a very unique flavour to the dish. Do you know it is highly beneficial to reduce the fatty acids, cholesterol and even epilepsy, when consumed regularly. Sabsige Soppu Palya is a simple udupi style dill leaves stir fry with grated coconut. Make sure that you don't overcook the greens, else they leave a very strong after-taste on the taste buds.

Ingredients

  • Dill leaves , 2 bunches finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Fresh coconut
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Chana dal (Bengal Gram Dal)
  • 4 cloves Garlic , finely chopped
  • 1 Onion , finely chopped
  • 1 Green Chilli , finely chopped
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 2 teaspoons Cooking oil
  • Salt , to taste

Directions for Sabsige Soppu Palya (Udupi Style Dill Leaves Stir Fry with Coconut)

  1. To begin making Sabsige Soppu Palya, clean the dill leaves by seperating out the thin and tender stems and discarding the thick ones.

  2. Rince it in running water, and chop them finely. Keep aside.

  3. Heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds, chana dal, curry leaves and let it splutter.

  4. Add the chopped garlic cloves and saute until it turns golden brown.

  5. Add the chopped onion and green chillies nd saute until the onions turn translucent.

  6. Add the chopped dill leaves and mix well till they are cooked.

  7. Season with salt and saute for another 5 minutes. Turn off the heat.

  8. Garnish with the grated coconut and mix well.

  9. Serve the Sabsige Soppu Palya along with Steamed Rice and Hurali Saaru Recipe (Healthy Horse Gram and Coconut Curry) for a simple weeknight dinner.
