TIME: 20 Minutes

Flax Seed Ladoo Recipe is a super healthy, high protein recipe for sweetened balls that can be packed for the kids snack boxes or even had as a quick bite on the go when they are having a sugar craving or feeling low on energy. Flaxseeds and roasted gram dal make a perfect combination of Omega 3 and proteins packing these ladoos with a load of goodness. Great to carry for a boost of energy on a picnic, trek, or even just to make and store at home. This recipe uses portions of jaggery and sugar to sweeten the ladoos, but you could also use only jaggery and omit the sugar completely to make it even healthier for you and your family.

Here's a few other interesting high-energy bites you might also want to make and stock at home: Date Chocolate And Nut Balls, Pineapple And Cashewnut Energy Fudge and Green Tea Coconut Ladoo.

  • 1 cup Dalia / roasted channa dal (pottukadalai, fried gram that you use in chutneys)

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/4 cup jaggery, crushed

  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder

  • 1/4 cup flax seed powder (freshly ground)

  • 1/4 cup almonds powdered

  • 4 to 5 tablespoons ghee

Directions for Flax Seed Ladoo Recipe

  1. To begin making the Flax Seed Ladoo Recipe, we will first dry roast the already roasted channa dal until it releases the roasted aroma and slightly changes its color.

  2. Allow the roasted channa dal to cool down and powder it.

  3. Keep all the remaining ingredients powdered and ready to be combined to make into a ladoo.

  4. Next in a large bowl, combine all of the ladoo ingredients along with ghee.

  5. Knead using your hands until it holds into a ball of mass. Keep kneading until you can make lemon size balls of the flax seed ladoos. The heat in your hands will help all the ingredients to bind itself together. So resist adding more ghee. Add only if needed

  6. Roll them into lemon size balls and the flax seed ladoos are ready. Store the ladoos an air tight container in the refrigerator.

You can now pack these Flax Seed Ladoos as a healthy snack for those long trecks, schools snack boxes or even a mid morning snack.
