Homemade Macaroni And Cheese Recipe is a classic dish prepared with macaroni pasta and a thick white sauce made with flour, few other ingredients and the hallmark being a lot of cheese. It's a very popular dish among kids and many adults consider it the epitome of comfort food. Make this simple but delicious Mac & Cheese right at home for a warm, and serve it along with some Garlic Bread as a comforting winter meal.
For the sauce
- 1-1/2 cups whole milk (do not substitute)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt For Mac and Cheese
- 1/4 pound dried elbow pasta
- 1 cup prepared sauce
- 3/4 cup grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
- Water and salt, to cook pasta

To begin making Homemade Macaroni And Cheese Recipe, first place a saucepan on the heat.
Warm the milk over medium heat until it starts to bubble. Do not let it come to a rolling or vigorous boil, and take it off the heat before.
In a separate heavy bottomed pot melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly until the mixture turns light brown. This will take 3 to 4 minutes. Take it off the heat.
Next, slowly pour the warm milk little by little into the butter flour mixture, while whisking constantly. The mixture will get thinner, but keep whisking.
Once all the milk is added and whisked well, set the pot back over medium high heat and continue to whisk.
It will take about 2 to 3 minutes for the sauce to come together and become silky and thick. At this stage, add salt and stir once more.
Meanwhile cook the pasta in salted boiling water, according to packet instructions. Drain and rinse the pasta.
Add the cheddar and pecorino cheese to the prepared sauce and cook over medium heat, stirring continuoulsy, until cheese is melted.
Next, add the cooked pasta and stir until the pasta is hot and steaming for another 5 minutes. Spoon into bowls and serve along with some Garlic Bread as a comforting winter meal.
