Asian Shrimp Rice Burger Recipe is a burger with Asian notes and elements. The burger bun here is replaced with jasmine sticky rice that is cooked and then shaped to resemble a bun. 

The sticky rice bun is sandwiched with a shrimp patty that has simple flavours, but what makes this burger lip smacking is the flavoured mayonnaise that is slathered in between and the burger gets it crunch from the lettuce and onion rings. 

A sprinkle of black sesame seeds over the rice bun adds to the crunch too, making them look absolutely scrumptious.

Ingredients

    For the sticky rice buns
  • 1 cup Thai Jasmine Rice , washed
  • 2 cups Water
  • Oil
  • For the shrimp patty
  • 6 Shrimps , ground into a paste
  • 6 Shrimps , chopped
  • Salt , to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Bread crumbs
  • 1/2 Whole Egg
  • For the Asian flavoured Mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup Classic Mayonnaise (With Egg)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce
  • Salt , to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sesame (Gingelly) Oil
  • Other Ingredients
  • Black sesame seeds , to sprinkle
  • 1/4 cup Onion Rings
  • Iceberg lettuce , a few leaves

Directions for Asian Shrimp Rice Burger Recipe

  1. To begin making the Asian Shrimp Rice Burger Recipe, we will first make the jasmine rice. 

To make the Jasmine Rice 
  1.  In a pressure cooker combine the jasmine rice, along with the water and oil and close the lid. 

  2. Pressure cook for two whistles and turn off the flame. 

  3. Once the pressure has released naturally, open the pressure cooker and spoon the rice into small bowls(katoris)  that are lightly greased with oil, this will help de-mould them like the shape of burger buns. 

  4. Fill each of the small bowls with only about two tablespoons and press them lightly and allow them to set for about 15 minutes. 

  5. Demould and set aside. You should be left with semi circle shaped rice buns. 

To make the Shrimp Patties 
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the freshly made shrimp paste with the chopped shrimps, salt,  black pepper powder, soy sauce, bread crumbs and bring the shrimp patty mixture together with the egg. 

  2. Mix until well combined. Preheat a skillet brushed with oil on medium high heat. 

  3. Shape the shrimp patties into a small cake, like that of cutlets to the size of the rice buns we made earlier. 

  4. Now place the shrimp patties on the skillet and cook on both sides for about 2-3 minutes each as prawns cook very quickly. Once they turn golden brown on each side, remove from the skillet and set aside. 

To make the Asian Flavoured Mayonnaise
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, along with the black pepper powder, sriracha sauce, salt, soy sauce and sesame oil. 

  2. Whisk well until combined and set aside. 

To assemble the Asian Shrimp Rice Burger Recipe
  1. Place one semi circular rice bun on the working counter, slather some Asian flavoured mayonnaise, then place the lettuce leaves, the shrimp patties, onions rings and finally close the burger with another rice bun and sprinkle some black sesame seeds. 

  2. Repeat the same to assemble the other Asian Shrimp Rice Burgers.
