Green Apple Rasam Recipe

Green Apple Rasam Recipe is a fusion recipe, where the classic rasam is attempted with fresh green apple juice, which gives it, it's delicious tart flavour.

Green Apple Rasam Recipe is rasam with a twist, the base of this rasam is made with a combination of green apple juice and tomatoes, seasoned with the traditional mustard seeds and red chilli tadka. 

Did you know : Green apples provide a huge range of health and beauty benefits, especially when compared to red apples. Green apples are more of sweet and sour type. 

Since it has sour taste we no need to include tamarind for this rasam. You may wish to peel or include the outer skin of the green apple.

Ingredients

  • 1 Green apple
  • 3/4 cup Arhar dal (Split Toor Dal) , cooked
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1/2 tablespoon Rasam Powder
  • Water , Water
  • Curry leaves , Few
  • 4 sprig Coriander (Dhania) Leaves , finely chopped
  • For tempering
  • Ghee , as required
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai/ Kadugu)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 2 cloves Garlic , finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 Dry Red Chilli

Directions for Green Apple Rasam Recipe

  1. To begin making the Green Apple Rasam, firstly cook dal,  by adding it in the pressure cooker along with 1/2 a cup of water. Close the pressure cooker and pressure cook the dal for 4 whistles. 

  2. Turn off the flame, allowing the pressure to release naturally. Drain the water and keep it aside.

  3. Chop green apple, tomato and blend them into a juice by adding water in a mixer grinder. Do not strain. 

  4. Take a heavy bottomed pan, add the apple tomato juice, hing, curry leaves, turmeric and salt. Bring it to a boil.

  5. Add rasam powder and dal and bring it to a boil. Once it is done, now we will prepare the tempering.

  6. Heat ghee in a tadka pan on medium flame, add the mustard seeds, allow it to splutter cumin seeds, garlic, and dry chilli

  7. Pour it into the rasam, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
