Red Chilli Thecha is a popular chutney made in most households in Maharashtra. This spicy Maharashtrian style Red chilli chutney Recipe is a classic example of a simple dish, which uses just a few day-to-day ingredients, but takes your meal to another level.

There are several variations of Thecha, this one uses fresh red chillies. You can alternatively use dried red chillies soaked in warm water. Adjust the number of chillies to suit your taste or depending on how pungent or hot the chillies  are.

Ingredients

  • 15 Fresh Red chillies , chopped
  • 15 cloves Garlic , chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard seeds (Rai/ Kadugu)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt , to taste

Directions for Red Chilli Thecha - Maharashtrian Style Red Chilli Chutney Recipe

  1. To begin making the Red chilli Thecha Recipe, first grind together the red chillies, garlic and salt to a coarse paste in a mortar and pestle or a blender.

  2. Transfer the  ground chillies in a bowl or a bottle.

  3. In a tadka pan heat the oil.

  4. Add the mustard seeds and once they splutter take the pan off the heat and add the hing.

  5. Pour this tempering  over the red chilli paste and mix. Refrigerate the Red Chilli Thecha in an airtight bottle to use as and when you require. 

  6. Serve Red Chili Thecha with Bhakri or  Roti and Dal Vangi Recipe for a wholesome meal.
