English Muffins in this recipe are made from part whole wheat flour and all purpose flour. These English Muffins take me back to the days when I lived in the US, where I loved these muffins for breakfast along with marmite or even had it along with eggs. In the video recipe you will notice I use a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer for kneading my breads. But if you don't have a stand mixer then you can use your hands and follow the same procedure.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 3 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Butter (Salted) , melted
  • 1 cup Milk , warm
  • Corn meal , or semolina for dusting

How to make Whole Wheat Homemade English Muffins Recipe

  1. To begin making the Whole Wheat Homemade English Muffins Recipe, into the large bowl of the stand mixer, add in a cup of warm milk, the melted butter, an egg, half a teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoon castor sugar, 3 teaspoons active dry yeast, and the flours.

  2. Using the dough hook knead the dough until all the ingredients are well combined to form a soft smooth dough.

  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cling wrap and allow it to rise until doubled about 2 hours.

  4. Notice after a couple of hours the dough has risen.

  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into eight to 10 equal pieces.

  6. Shape each piece of dough into a ball and pat it down lightly to form a 1/2 inch thick round.

  7. Dust each side of the round with cornmeal or semolina.

  8. Sprinkle the baking sheet with cornmeal or semolina and set the rounds on this to rise.

  9. Cover the dough and allow it to rise for another half an hour.

  10. Preheat greased iron skillet or any other skillet that you have on low heat.

  11. Cook muffins on griddle about 10 minutes on each side on medium heat. They should be golden brown when you turn them.

  12. Proceed the same way with the remaining muffins. 

  13. To serve the English Muffins, split the muffins with a fork andserve warm along with butter and eggs or even your favorite jelly.

  14. You can also make English Muffin Pizzas by topping with with some roasted bell peppers , cheese and sauces. They make quick weeknight dinners as well.
