To begin making the Andhra Style Palakura Pappu, add Arhar dal/toor dal into a pressure cooker with 2 cups water and pressure cook for about 3 whistles.
Switch off the heat and allow it release the pressure by itself.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and give it a stir.
Place the pressure cooker on low heat and add the tamarind water.
In the meanwhile, heat a small kadai with 1 teaspoon oil. Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and allow it splutter.
Add curry leaves and leave it to crackle. Next add dry red chilies and garlic, saute for few seconds and turn off the flame.
Pour this tempering over the Palakura Pappu and stir well.
