Spiced Turnips with Spinach Recipe is a nutrient-packed spicy side for Indian bread like naan, chapati or parathas. My mom used to feed this with hot chapatis saying that they were actually potatoes since I never used to like the idea of turnips. But once I grew older enough to understand its nutritional benefits, I started liking turnips as well.

Ingredients

  • 3 Turnips , peeled and diced into cubes
  • 1 Spinach Leaves (Palak) , bunch, chopped
  • 2 Tomatoes , chopped
  • 1 Onion , sliced
  • Salt , to taste
  • Red Chilli powder , to taste
  • 3/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 3/4 teaspoon Coriander Powder (Dhania)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger , paste
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic , paste(optional)
  • 3/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 3 Green Chillies , slit
  • Oil , to cook
  • 2 sprig Coriander (Dhania) Leaves , finely chopped

Directions for Spiced Turnips with Spinach Recipe

  1. To start preparing Spiced Turnips with Spinach Recipe, get all the ingredients handy. In a pan, heat oil. Once the oil is hot, add in the cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle.

  2. Add sliced onions and saute it till it changes colour on a medium flame.

  3. Add ginger and garlic paste and saute it for a minute until the raw smell goes.

  4. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and coriander powder. Cover and cook for another 2 minutes till done.

  5. Add turnips, mix it well. Cover it and cook on a low flame till it 3/4th done, takes about 5-10 minutes.

  6. Add chopped spinach, green/red chillies and cilantro. Mix well, cover it and cook on a low flame till it changes the colour or looks roasted.

  7. Serve the prepared Spiced Turnips and Spinach Recipe hot with chapatis or naan.
