73 ratings

This week in the Kids School Lunch Box Menu plan, we have Beetroot Rice, Mooli Paneer Paratha, Kala Chana Masala, Paneer Sandwich & More

As always, when packing kids lunch box, packing in nutrition and energy rich foods is extremely important.

You will notice, I add curd/ yogurt to every meal or some fruits or dry fruits. These are energy giving foods and help the children get that instant boost of energy.

Tips: A great way to not let the yogurt sour, is to place it in the bowl you plan to pack and freeze it the previous night. And the next morning, pack it straight into the lunch box and it will thaw on its own.

Avoid packing processed foods like cakes, cookies and chips into a snack box, because these foods do not provide the nutrition your child needs and before you know it, your child will be on his way to be in the obesity.  Most importantly aim for a balanced diet by adding proteins, carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits and healthy fats. This is the age we can incorporate healthy eating habits to our children.

I hope you enjoy these lunch boxes. Happy Cooking & Healthy Eating.

Monday

Beetroot Rice, Curd & Fruits

Beetroot is an extremely nutritious vegetable and excellent for children as well. It has a lot of vital nutrients which are needed for growing children. Beetroot rice is a great way to include beet into a kids diet. Pack it along with a bowl of curd.

Tip: A great way to not let the yogurt sour, is to place it in the bowl you plan to pack and freeze it the previous night. And the next morning, pack it straight into the lunch box and it will thaw on its own. Also prepare the cooked rice the previous evening and grate the beetroot and keep it ready. The next morning it becomes real easy to stir fry the beetroot along with the rice and spices.

Tuesday

Mooli Paneer Paratha, Raita & Fruits

Mooli is a vegetable that is packed with nutrients and combining it along with paneer adds to the protein. The addition of protein in a meal is extremely important for growing children. Hence legumes, paneer, curd etc add to the small amounts of protein that can be included in the lunch box.

Tip: Cut the paratha into triangles or fold into half and place into the lunchbox. You can pack honey or a pickle in another small box for your child to have. If your child is old enough, you can pack a beetroot raita or a plain cup of curd along with the paratha.

Wednesday

Kala Chana Masala, Tawa Paratha, Curd

Make the Kala chana masala with a little gravy and pack it along with Tawa paratha for lunch. Ensure you keep small portions, as kala chana can be filling. Packing yogurt or buttermilk in a leak proof bottle is also great way to end the meal post lunch. You can also optionally pack a few dry fruits into the lunch box like dates or raisins to add to the sweet touch.

Tips: Keep the soaked and ready the previous day. You can alternatively, make kala chana the previous night and pack it for lunch the next morning. Make the Tawa Paratha fresh in the morning and as always, pack some yogurt and dry fruits.

Thursday

Paneer Sandwich & Fruits

Sandwiches make great lunch box options for children. Invest in a sandwich maker and making a grilled sandwich with vegetables will become a breeze. In this week's sandwich, we have included, paneer, broccoli and peanuts which adds great  taste and crunch to the sandwich. Do pack some fruits, this will give the little dessert type of sweetness and give the kids energy to take on the tasks for the day in school.

Tip: Make the filling for the sandwich ready the previous evening, this way making the sandwich becomes a jiffy in the morning.

Friday

Creamy Alfredo Cauliflower Pasta Recipe

Pack this delicious white sauce pasta into the kids lunch box. This white sauce is made from roasted Cauliflower and pureed to make the sauce. You can use any type of pasta that you child likes.

Tip: When packing pasta, ensure you add extra sauce and pack the pasta under room temperature. This will ensure the pasta does not get dry when packed.
