Mashed peas are a healthier alternative to mashed potatoes. This is a great side dish to be served for get-togethers or parties. Fresh seasonal peas are cooked and flavoured with mint to make this quick and easy Mashed peas. Adding Avocado makes it creamier and healthier. You will not miss the butter in this version of mashed peas! Add some zing to the sweet nutty peas by squeezing in some lime juice. You can always use frozen peas if fresh peas are not in season.

How to make Mashed Peas Recipe

  1. To begin making the Mashed Peas, first cook the peas till they lose their bite (you can use a pressure cooker or a saucepan to cook them).

  2. Reserve some water and drain off the remaining water from the vessel.

  3. In a pan heat the olive oil. Add the garlic and peas and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Take it off the heat and add the mint leaves and mashed avocados.

  5. Mash together the peas and avocado. You can use a food processor for blending them together, a potato masher or you can mash it using your hands. Add some reserved water if required.

  6. Season with salt and pepper and add the lime juice.

  7. Serve the mashed peas along with your favourite curry for a light meal or spread them on toasted bread for a quick snack. You can also have it along with salads like Beetroot salad with mixed greens and feta cheese and Smoked tofu and grilled vegetable salad.
