Ingredients

To grind

    1/2 cup Fresh coconut
    1 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
    6 Dry Red Chillies
    3 tablespoons Water

Other Ingredients

    2 cups Rice flour
    1/4 cup Sooji (Semolina/ Rava)
    3/4 cup All Purpose Flour (Maida)
    1 teaspoon Ajwain (Carom seeds)
    1 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
    1 teaspoon Salt, or to taste
    2 tablespoons Sesame seeds (Til seeds)
    1/2 cup Oil, warm/hot
    Oil, for deep frying

Instructions for Kodubale Recipe - Tea Time Snack From Karnataka

    To begin making the Kodubale Recipe, first prep all the ingredients and keep ready.

    Into a mixer grinder, blend the coconut, cumin and red chillies to make a paste. Keep aside.

    Into a large mixing bowl, add the rice flour, sooji, maida, ajwain, salt, the coconut chilli paste and hot oil and knead well to make a dough. Add water only if required to make firm and yet smooth dough.

    Divide and shape the dough into lemon size balls. Using the palm of your hands rub and roll to make a half inch thick and yet thin long roll. Cut the roll in 1.5 inch strips and join the ends to form a circle. Repeat the process for the rest of the dough.

    Prepare the oil for deep frying; drop the Kodubale circles one by one slowly so that it does not break and deep fry on medium heat until the Kodubale is browned and crisp.

    Keep the heat on low to medium to it get cooked from the inside as well. Drain the Kodubale from the oil and store in airtight containers after it is cooled.
