With the fluctuating climate in my part of the world we really cannot make out how our day is going to be. On the hot day's I generally make it in a big pot during the weekends so that we keep drinking without getting dehydrated.

Vazhaithandu (Plantain stem) chopped roughly and blended with yogurt, lemon juice and salt gives this thirst quenching drink "Vazhaithandu Neer Mor”. With the fluctuating climate in my part of the world we really cannot make out how our day is going to be. We anyway's carry umbrellas as we need it for both the extreme temperature.

  • 1 Plantain Stem , (small)
  • Water , as required
  • 2 teaspoons Lemon juice
  • Curry leaves , a few
  • Asafoetida (hing) , a generous pinch of hing powder
  • 1/2 cup Curd (Dahi / Yogurt)

How to make Vazaithandu Neer Mor Recipe - Plantain Stem Buttermilk

  1. To begin making the Vazhaithandu Neer Mor recipe, peel the outer skin of plantain stem. This one comes off very easily.

  2. Chop the inner part of the stem coarsely and grind it in a mixer grinder with about 200 ml water.

  3. Filter the juice with a thin cotton cloth. Filtering with the regular metallic strainers might not work out.

  4. Mix yogurt, hing, salt, lemon and curry leaves. Blend them nicely without any lumps in a blender.

  5. Refrigerate it for few minutes and your Vazhaithandu Neer Mor is ready to serve.
