Ingredients

  • 1 cup Arhar dal (Split Toor Dal)
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 Onion , finely chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger , finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic , finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies , slit
  • 1 Tomato , finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander (Dhania) Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • Salt , to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • Coriander (Dhania) Leaves , a small bunch, finely chopped
  • Ingredients for seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin (Jeera) seeds
  • 2 Dry red chilli

How to make Punjabi Dal Tadka Recipe - Punjabi Toor Dal Recipe

  1. To begin making the Punjabi Dal Tadka recipe, we will first cook the dal in the pressure cooker. Prep all the ingredients and keep them ready.

  2. Heat ghee into the pressure cooker, add the onions, garlic and ginger and saute until the onions have softened. 

  3. Once the onions have softened, add the tomatoes and saute until the tomatoes become mushy. 

  4. Stir in the green chillies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, salt along with the toor dal and 2-1/2 cups of water. Cover the pressure cooker and cook for 4 to 5 whistles and turn off the heat.

  5. Allow the pressure to release naturally.

  6. Once Dal is cooked, open the pressure cooker stir and check the salt and seasonings and adjust according to taste.

  7. Squeeze the juice from one lemon, stir in the finely chopped coriander leaves and transfer the Punjabi Dal Tadka to a serving bowl. 

  8. For the tadka,  heat the ghee in a tadka pan, add in the cumin seeds and dry red chillies. Roast for a few seconds and pour this tadka over the Punjabi Dal Tadka and serve hot.

  9. Serve Punjabi Dal Tadka along with Baingan Ka Bharta and Phulka for an everyday meal. Also serve a Satvik Carrot Sprout Salad to make the meal more nutritious.
