  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon Gram flour (besan)
  • 300 ml Coconut milk , thick
  • Salt , salt to taste

How to make Tomato Sheer Recipe-Tomato And Coconut Curry Recipe

  1. To begin making  Tomato Sheer Recipe, in a pan, heat the oil, add asafoetida and the fenugreek seeds.

  2. Add in the chopped onion and sauté until transparent. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till the onion and tomatoes combine to form a thick paste and oil starts leaving the sides.

  3. In the meanwhile, dissolve the besan in a few tablespoons of coconut milk. Add in the salt, chilli powder and sugar and mix well. Stir in the rest of the coconut milk and stir until well combined.

  4. Add this coconut milk mixture to the pan with onion and tomato paste. Whisk to combine it together. Simmer on low heat until lightly bubbly, about 5 to 8 minutes. Boiling too much can cause the coconut milk to split.

  5. When it comes to a boil, taste to check for salt and sugar balance. Turn off gas.

  6. The sugar is only intended to take the edge off the acidity of the tomatoes and should not overpower the taste of this curry.

  7. Serve Tomato Sheer with Manathakkali KootuSteamed Rice and Elai Vadam for a comforting lunch.
